A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas Returns to Hartford Stage

Hartford Stage has announced the return of the holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas,” after a three-year hiatus. The production, directed by original adapter Michael Wilson, runs from November 24 to December 24 at Hartford Stage, located at 50 Church Street.

“A Christmas Carol has been a Hartford tradition since 1998,” shares Hartford Stage Artistic Director Melia Bensussen. “We are overjoyed to remount this heartwarming tale for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. We happily welcome back director Michael Wilson for our 60th-anniversary season.”

The cast includes Allen Gilmore as Ebenezer Scrooge, Erik Bloomquist as Fred/Scrooge at 30, Vanessa R Butler as Fred’s Wife/Belle, and a talented ensemble of performers bringing Dickens’ timeless characters to life.

This beloved production, a holiday tradition for many in New England, not only marks the return of a cherished tradition but also celebrates the 60th anniversary of Hartford Stage.

In addition to the main cast, a company of youth actors from the Greater Hartford region, as well as students from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford, will contribute to the magic of “A Christmas Carol.” The production features a collaboration with the Hartt School, providing students with a valuable opportunity to participate in a professional theater setting.

“A Christmas Carol” will run from November 24 to December 24, 2023, with evening performances starting at 7:30 p.m. Matinees on Saturdays and Sundays begin at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices start at $30, with discounts available for students and groups. Groups can also reserve private spaces at the theater for pre or post-performance receptions, creating a special occasion around their visit.

To enhance the festive experience, a holiday market featuring local vendors will be hosted in the Hartford Stage lobby on December 9 and December 16 starting at 1:00 p.m. Additionally, there will be a sensory-friendly performance on December 2, an open-captioned performance on December 10, and an audio-described performance on December 16.

Hartford Stage encourages patrons to purchase tickets directly through their official channels to avoid third-party resellers. COVID-19 safety measures are in place, with updates available at HartfordStage.org/COVID-19.
