Carly Martin’s vision for Silver Circle Gallery has flourished since its founding in 2008. Located at 75 Main Street in the heart of Putnam’s arts and culture district, the gallery is a vibrant cornerstone for artistic expression in Northeast Connecticut. It serves not only as an exhibit space but as a thriving community hub where creativity is celebrated and shared. |
A long-time resident of Northeast Connecticut, Carly imagined an inspiring space where local and regional artists and artisans could showcase their work, sell unique handmade gifts and boutique items, and offer art classes to individuals of all ages. With the support of passionate and dedicated community members, Carly turned her vision into a reality. Since then, Silver Circle Gallery has grown into a haven for the artistic community and a strong advocate for the transformative power of creativity.
Under Carly’s guidance, the gallery has hosted a thoughtfully curated rotation of exhibitions, introducing diverse artistic perspectives and fresh interpretations of art that resonate deeply with visitors. From abstract works to traditional landscapes, every exhibit adds vibrancy to the Putnam community. A prime example of its programming was Transcendence: Works by George Chaplin, showcasing pastel works on paper and select oil paintings on canvas by the acclaimed artist.
Chaplin, known as “nature’s transcendent painter,” takes inspiration from the ocean’s ever-changing movement and music’s emotive power. His art reflects these influences through delicate gradations of color that create a sense of both excitement and calmness. Chaplin studied under Josef Albers, a renowned Modern artist and Bauhaus alumnus, at Yale University, where he earned his BFA and MFA.
His work has been acquired by the U.S. State Department, featured in national and international exhibitions, and recognized in publications like The Art of Drawing, Color, and Who’s Who in American Art. His visionary approach has even inspired comparisons to “spiritual abstraction.”
Silver Circle Gallery not only celebrates seasoned professionals like Chaplin but also serves as a launching pad for emerging talent. Carly sees herself as a facilitator for artists and the community, creating a space where both experienced and fledgling creators can thrive. The gallery offers an inclusive range of art classes and workshops in mediums like painting, drawing, pottery, and mixed media for all ages, from children to adults. Families often participate together, finding joy and therapeutic benefits through artistic exploration.
Beyond its walls, Silver Circle Gallery plays an integral role in community outreach, collaborating with local schools, organizations, and artists to foster art appreciation and creativity. Carly’s efforts have cultivated a lasting legacy of cultural enrichment, ensuring that art remains accessible and impactful for all.
With its dynamic exhibits, welcoming atmosphere, and robust educational offerings, Silver Circle Gallery is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts, curious learners, and supporters of creative expression.
Whether you’re an artist looking for inspiration or a visitor hoping to connect with Northeast Connecticut’s vibrant cultural scene, Silver Circle Gallery invites you to explore, create, and experience the joy of art firsthand.
